I used to live on an island in the middle of the Nile in Cairo; one of the largest cities in the world. The city erected a memorial statue of Umm Kulthum, an iconic singer from the 1950s, near to where I lived because it was where she had once lived. One of my best friends in Cairo asked why they would put such an important statue like that in the middle of nowhere! Indeed, no where; only in the middle of the Nile, in the middle of the city.
One day, after I returned to the U.S., I was cycling in South County Rhode Island and I came across the Middle of Nowhere Diner and knew that after all, the middle of nowhere was not in Cairo, but in South County, Rhode Island.
